Editorial Services
I am dedicated to helping you translate ideas from your brain to the page and helping the words on those pages convey meaning and purpose. I want to help bring your story to life through revision and reorganization. I approach editing with collaboration in mind, hoping to amplify your voice, support your ideas, and provide guidance when needed.
My Editorial Philosophy
Never rewrite
I strive to offer actionable feedback that you can take or leave, rather than putting my own voice into your work. I believe strongly in the individual voice of each writer. That is what makes each story so unique!
Work collaboratively
I offer multiple opportunities to meet and for you to ask questions throughout the editing process to ensure the work we're doing is productive and helpful.
Kind & direct feedback
I understand what it's like reading someone else's ideas about your work, I want to make this process painless and hopefully enjoyable through empathetic feedback and encouragement paired with adept critiques and helpful questions.
My Editorial Process
1 / Schedule a free discovery call
This is a free, 30-minute chat where you get a chance to get to know me and I get a chance to get to know you and your work. You can schedule this call with me through the form on the "contact" page of this website.
2 / Receive a sample edit and estimate
I offer a sample edit (between 1500 and 2000 words) for you to learn how I actually work, and I can get excited about the project you're working on.
3 / Sign contract
This process is not as dull as it sounds! It's the final step before the exciting stuff begins!
4 / Review meetings/check-ins
In order to ensure that the work I'm doing and your expectations are continually in alignment, and in pursuit of a collaborative environment, I offer every client check-in and review meetings. These meetings are scheduled out in advance and tailored to each edit and client.
5 / Enjoy your reviewed work!
I strive to leave each client satisfied and ready to tackle the next step in the publishing and editing process. I truly get so excited to see what's next for those that I work with.
What do I work with?
-
Speculative fiction
-
Dystopia
-
Science fiction
-
Fantasy
-
Any genre of Clean (spice free) fiction
-
Biblical retellings
-
Christian fiction
-
Romance
Overall, I work with stories that are from the heart, that seek to ask tough questions, engage interesting conversations, or help you gain new perspectives. I love books that deal with Biblical themes and help readers to see God's truths in new ways. However, I'm certainly open to books that are not from the Christian worldview. The vibes of books that I work with range from sweet and silly to deep and raw.
If your book doesn't match one of the genres listed above, that's totally okay, reach out to me through the "contact" page or directly by emailing kateplahitko@gmail.com and we can see if we're a good fit for each other!
